Tinnelly Transport granted six month O-Licence
Tinnelly Transport, the successor to Northern-Irish-based HGV driving firm Tinnelly International Transport, has been granted a six-month O-Licence (Operators’ Licence) by the DVA, the licensing authority in the province. Reportedly, the decision comes after an investigation by Motor Transport, stating the firm operated without a licence.
What is more, North-Western TC Beverley Bell described the Director of both HGV driving and contracting distribution companies, Kevin Tinnelly as “non-compliant” at a public inquiry. The DVA, on the other hand, declined to justify its decision, but nonetheless stated it had given the O-Licence application rather careful consideration.
VOSA too has been dragged into the affair, just after a Freedom of Information (FoI) request was submitted by Motor Transport, all in all asking it to reveal and lay out any prohibitions received by Tinnelly International Transport, which was allegedly refused on the grounds that disclosure would have consequently had an impact on Kevin Tinnelly’s new business.
Motor Transport has appealed this decision, citing a legitimate public interest for disclosure. Nevertheless, the FoI request did in fact yield details of three prosecutions for “overloading offences” that VOSA took against Tinnelly International Transport. Still, evidence emerged that Tinnelly’s Preston located service centre is now being used for operating HGVs.
