Tenens switches to natural gas for HGVs
Logistics Management company Howard Tenens is apparently now looking to reduce its fleet’s CO2 emissions by 20 percent – by converting its HGVs to run on natural gas. The so-called ‘Duel-Fuel’ system, developed and installed by the HardStaff Group, was designed to burn gas and diesel simultaneously and thus reduces HGV driving CO2 emissions.
In addition to that, spokespeople for Tenens reveal that the ‘Duel-Fuel’ system has been labelled as ‘The Best So Far’ in terms of efficiency and quality, in comparison with other systems and devices promising reduction in CO2 emissions. In spite of the fact that the company tested other variables, ‘Duel-Fuel’ was selected as ‘The Best.’
Catherine Crouch, Head of Tenens Environmental, says:
“Tenens will be looking to at using both Compress Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) on both long-haul and short-haul operations, but our long-term ambition is to replace the CNG with renewable bio-methane; it can reduce CO2s by a further 20% over natural gas.”
Crouch also adds that they will be running several tests before ‘setting focus on their main ambition’, and these tests will be done in order to ‘modify’ – if necessary – the overall scheme for reducing CO2 emissions.
