Over the last few years, the popularity of HGV driving courses has risen a great deal due to the increasing growth of the industry. More and more people seem to be taking up these HGV driving courses because the field is now a great one in which to earn some good money. In addition to this, the number of companies that are hiring HGV certified drivers has also resulted in HGV driving courses becoming popular today.

What do you need for an HGV driver training course?

HGV or Heavy Goods Vehicle as it is otherwise known requires any individual to first have a standard UK driving licence before signing up for the HGV driver training course. HGV licences are mainly divided into two categories. These are the class C and class C+E HGV licences. The former allows an individual to drive a vehicle that is more than 7.5 tonnes in weight while the latter allows individuals to drive larger vehicles that also have a trailer.

Is it like a regular driving course?

In the general sense, HGV driver training courses are like a regular driving course. This is because they have both, a practical and theory test. However, the questions that have to be answered in the theory test and the skills required in the practical test pertain largely to HGV vehicles and handling them.

Once the test is over and should the individual pass it, an HGV licence is provided to that individual and working for an HGV company can begin as soon as possible. Many institutes that offer HGV driver training also offer to place trainees in a company once the course has been completed.
