Decrease in numbers of vehicles traveling to Europe from Great Britain

The total number of goods vehicles travelling from Great Britain to Europe has reduced considerably. The total number of vehicles in the second quarter of this year was 590,000. This is indeed less than the second quarter of 2008. The decrease in the total number of vehicles is 19 per cent. This study was conducted by the Department for Transport and covers all the vehicles travelling by ferry and the Channel Tunnel.

The total number of power driven vehicles has also reduced by 18 per cent compared to the second half of last year. There is also a considerable decrease in the total number of trailers by 22 percent from that of 2008. The total number of trailers from these vehicles was around 148,000. The total number of power driven vehicles from these vehicles was about 442,000.

Out of the total number of those HGV driving, 20 percent of them were based in, and registered in the UK itself. This number is also less compared to the second quarter of 2008. Whereas, the number of goods vehicles which passed from Great Britain to Europe was around 2.49 million. This is 14 percent less compared to the second quarter of 2008. However, these figures are higher than the figures of the year 1992. The increase is about 78 percent higher compared to the second half of 1992.
