If you are ensure about which job to go for then try working as a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) driver. HGV drivers get a chance to travel all over the UK and Europe. Most haulage companies pay HGV drivers £14,000 in the beginning when their training starts and experienced drivers can earn up to £35,000.

To be a HGV driver, you need to undergo a training course which will help you to pass the test and get your licence.

Different types of HGV licences

HGV training will help you to get a truck licence, which are categorised in two main classes such as C and C+E. C class is for vehicles that weighs over 7.5 tonnes and C+E licence allows you to drive a vehicle with a trailer. You need to hold a class C licence to get a C+E licence and you must hold a driving licence to get HGV licence. There are also some age restrictions. You have to be at least 18 years old or above for class C licence and 21 for class C+E licence. You even need to clear a medical examination and eye test to become a HGV driver.

Like a normal driving test, there are two tests which you need to pass to get the licence. In the theory test, you need to answer multiple choice questions. It is to test your knowledge of the Highway Code and practical knowledge of being a HGV driver. In the practical test, you will be examined on your ability to drive the vehicle in different conditions. This test includes turning and parking of the vehicle in confined spaces.

Thus, the entire test lasts for 90 minutes and after passing both the tests, you will have your licence and you can start working for a haulage company.
