A new operation has been launched by Birmingham-based international specialist Chambers & Cook Freight Ltd (CCF). They are intending to provide the UK with an unaccompanied trailer service using a new company, known as Chambers & Cook (Eastern Ltd), and they hope to make a turnover of £5m in the first year.

This business started in November and since then, all operations have been completed from their office, located at the Humberside port of Immingham.

The operations director of CCF, Chris Blackburn, said that this operation was basically started earlier in the driver-accompanied market. He also said that the new services are more flexible in terms of cost as there will be no standing charges for HGVs / LGVs or their drivers.

He went on to say that the operation is performing well and more than 30 Schmitz Cargobull curtainsiders will be added by January. The whole operation required an investment of about £1 million in total. CCF is not expecting much in the beginning, but they do want to be fully operational by January 2010. This is a crucial time for the company, as it is when customers are looking for new carriers.

In addition to the new services available in the North of England and the Midlands, CCF will also use the Thames port of Purfleet for all Southern customers.
