The season of Christmas will witness a huge demand in second-hand medium-sized panel vans that cost anywhere between £2,000 and £4,000. Glass’s Chief Commercial Vehicle Editor, George Alexander, says this will be due to the upbeat demand on the high street. He also puts forth the point that these panel vans will offer a speedy fix for parcel delivery companies which are struggling with the currently busy celebratory shopping period.

An outcome of this could be a rise in prices, for example if a previously priced van was £1,900 it could raise up to as much as £2,450 during December ‘09.

Alexander also adds that operators are at present cutting down from large to medium sized vans to increase the running cost and the productivity cost. The 3.5-tonners will carry on the bulk of transactions.

He explains that the 3.5-tonner stands at 52% currently, and it can be seen shifting only a few points.

The market for almost new products is also performing well, with sale conversion rates at around 90%. A shortage of the best, late-year 3.5-tonner stock has seen prices stiff up, often beyond vendor expectations.
