A government HGV / LGV training course conducted specially to help improve the skills of workers was aimed at hauliers. However, MPs were responsible for disrupting the HGV training by setting targets that were over-ambitious. The most disappointing part was when these MPs turned people away after going £50m into the red.

The scheme called ‘train to gain’ was designed in order to provide the employees with a chance to gain qualifications, so that the gap of skills would be reduced. But the MPs stated that the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) were incapable of managing the scheme to the mark. This led to a whole two years of wasted expenditure and a drop in the opposite direction. Hence it was a necessity that the LSC put a stop to its expenditure.

A particular report states that these mistakes were not acceptable. There are a lot of training related processes in the pipeline and needs are not being met.

This situation is described as frustrating by the chief executive of Skills Logistics Dr. Mick Jackson. His disappointment was considered valid as he had poured in efforts for the HGV ‘train to gain’ scheme. We will have to wait and see what comes of this.
