Firm to pay fine for driver offences
February 6, 2010HGV / LGV drivers from a Rotherham based have pleaded at a court of law that pressure of work resulted in tachograph offences. This has caused their employers to have to pay around £5,000 in fines. The judgment was passed in a hearing before Sheffield magistrates.
The Rotherham based Lidget Concrete pleaded guilty to around 10 offences regarding unlawful vehicle use. The HGV vehicle was driven without keeping a check of the tachograph and around eight offences were related to instances when the driver was deprived of insufficient rest. The magistrates eventually fined the organisation £3,700 and £1,270 along with a £15 victim surcharge. This brought the total to £4,985.
In December last year, the HGV / LGV drivers from the firm admitted to the charges of falsifying tachograph charts. They were then asked to pay fines and costs for an amount of £6,882. According to Steve Milner, Prosecutor for VOSA, drivers had cited pressure of work as an excuse. Back then they had claimed that they were worried about completing the work on time and they did not understand the rules properly.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Gary Hodgson said that the drivers had committed the crime of falsifying the tachograph records. The organisation had further assisted the traffic examiner by providing a computer analysis of tachograph charts. The firm will thus have to pay the fines as ordered by the court of justice.
