Drivers set up a new body for HGV / LGV drivers
The UK Professional Drivers Association (PDA) has recently established a charity that is specifically intended for HGV / LGV drivers, the Professional Drivers Foundation. The founder and spokeswoman of PDA, Pat Nicholson said that the UK haulage industry is among the largest employers in the UK. She also said that the UK haulage industry offers a vital livelihood to thousands of HGV / LGV drivers, many of whom are more than 50 years of age.
The foundation was initially formed for the benefit of lorry drivers who had previously been employed with few benefits and low wages. Previously, HGV driving was not a well-paid industry and used to encompass long hours of work with the majority of the workforce being away for almost 4 nights a week whilst also sleeping in their vehicles.
The foundation is delighted to have Steve Parrish, British motor ace as their supporter. Winner of more than a dozen of European, British, Truck Racing and World Motorcycle Titles, Steve is thrilled to bring his support to the Foundation. Steve commented that it is great to see a charity that is specifically supporting lorry drivers, who we all know are the lifeline of the country.
