Quote Me Today, an HGV insurance specialist, has cautioned customers to be ready for a rise in the cost of insurance next year. The warning comes after reports from Deloitte, a major international accounting and consulting firm, stating that more than 85% of insurers are planning to raise their premiums starting in 2010.
The yearly survey of the insurance industry showed that at least half of the insurers questioned planned to increase premiums by 5-10%. Another fifth of insurers estimated increases of more than 10%. Insurers are blaming these increases on the large number of uninsured drivers on UK roads and on counterfeit motor claims due to the recession.
A spokesperson for the company said that this news is coming to motorists at the end of a bad year, considering the rising costs of fuel. However, even with the inevitable hikes in insurance premiums, the company have said that they will do all they can to reduce the impact on their clients.
It is also important for motorists, and especially HGV drivers, to get proper training before applying for insurance. This will enable them to reduce their insurance premiums to some extent. Well-trained drivers from a good HGV driver training institution can make quite a difference to the premiums paid by drivers or companies.

HGV training is a must if you wish to drive a heavy goods vehicle (HGV). Driving an HGV is no mean feat. This is why HGV trainers are warning budding drivers to undergo a strenuous driving course to adapt to the nuances of driving the vehicle.
Concerned HGV trainers have also advised the interested individuals to conduct thorough research before selecting a training academy. This concern sprouted amidst the growing number of fraudulent cases in the HGV training sector. Online brokers are trying to attract interested individuals with cheap training deals. However, the credibility of such institutes cannot be guaranteed. According to the trainers, a stringent regulation is required to put an end to these activities.
The lack of any regulation has contributed to the number of registered trainees in these schools. They tend to enlist in the course without understanding the quality of the academy. Other trainers are of the opinion that the rules and regulations should be in line with the car driving schools. Such training schools which offer fast paced training lessons will ultimately put the entire industry at risk.
HGV trainers also feel that this practice will not benefit the drivers in any way, since such training schools hire cheap trainers lacking the necessary expertise. The HGV trainers are united in their stand against HGV training malpractices. HGV training is the means of earning a livelihood and it is advisable that you conduct an in-depth background study before joining an institute.

An HGV usually carries heavy and bulky goods from one factory to another or between warehouses. Therefore, it also needs a strong driver who is capable of directing a big, heavy truck like a HGV to avoid any accidents on the road.
Besides being difficult, it is also an expensive affair to get a registered licence to drive an HGV. Basically, HGV can be classified into two categories, N2 licence and N3 licence. In case of N2 licence, drivers are required to get this licence to drive HGV which can hold between 3.5 and 12 tonnes of mass. On the other hand, N3 licence is required for drivers who wish to drive an HGV that can hold a cargo of more than 12 tonnes.
An HGV licence can be attained in two different ways. First, you can either engage somebody to sponsor you, or second, you can pay for your licence on your own. Amongst the two ways, the latter one is a better option in comparison to getting the sponsorship. Paying for the licence yourself allows you to take a few HGV training classes and pass some required tests and get the licence successfully. In this case, you are free to work at a place of your choice and always opt for driving your own HGV.

Once the test is over and should the individual pass it, an HGV licence is provided to that individual and working for an HGV company can begin as soon as possible. Many institutes that offer HGV driver training also offer to place trainees in a company once the course has been completed.

In spite of the fact that the HGV Theory Test may vary according to the Training Centre and Programme you opt for, it is still a test that you have to pass in order to be given a Professional HGV Driving Licence. Although the form of the test may vary in terms of your location, or the Training Centre’s location, the content of it is generally the same. Basically, the HGV Theory Test consists of two different sections; one of which is a multiple-choice section while the other is a ‘Hazard-Perception’ section.
The multiple-choice section features HGV-related questions with multiple answers. Normally, you would choose one of these answers (per question) and the one you select is considered your answer to the overall question. Nowadays, with all the technology available, the HGV Theory Test is widely being conducted on computer-touch screens as an easier and more comfortable alternative to the standard paper-and-pencil tests. As to the multiple-choice section, you’ll be given a practice test before the actual test.
On the other hand, the ‘Hazard-Perception’ section of the HGV Theory Test is somewhat different from the multiple-choice section. How different? In many ways it is very different. This section is said to include watching videos in 3D – and ‘looking out’ for potential hazards on the road, as if you were driving on it yourself. Hence, your ability to spot potential risks and dangers – from the slightest details to the most obvious road hazards – will be tested (and marked!) according to your overall attentiveness.
July 17, 2009
Generally, the professional HGV Theory Test – as part of your overall Professional HGV Training Course – is one of the tests you will need to take in order to get your Professional HGV Licence. Now, the Professional HGV Theory Test is usually taken before the practical test. Nevertheless, both tests are of immense importance for you. Why? Because you will have to pass these tests so as to get your Professional HGV Driving Licence and become a Professional HGV Driver in the UK transport industry.
It is important to note that the Professional HGV Theory Test is not like the usual and most common test for standard driving. After all, it is a ‘theory’ test, and it has more to do with the theoretical aspects of HGV driving. These aspects, of course include HGV-related laws, rules and regulations – all of which are frequently found and very much common in the UK business of HGV driving. Passing this test is a must, and you cannot be given a HGV driving licence without passing it.
The Theory Test itself is not as difficult as you may think. Basically, there are two parts: a multiple-choice section, and a ‘Hazard-Perception’ section. But then again, this may vary according to the HGV Training Centre you decide on in the first place. In order to pass the Theory Test, you must get a minimum total of points in each section. There’s absolutely no need to panic while taking the exam, as you may forget what you already know very easily. Therefore, relax and focus on the questions.

Also, it’s a course in which you will learn all you need to know about the HGV driving business including various HGV-related regulations, laws and strategies for coping with your driving schedule and goods deliveries.
Once you finish your HGV training course, you’ll have to take an exam. Passing this exam will provide you with either a Category C or a Category C+E licence. Regardless of which one you decide on, you’ll have to pass the final exam in order to receive a HGV driving licence. As for the exam, your HGV-training instructors will make sure you’re familiarised with all the important aspects of professional HGV driving; from the very start of your training course to the final exam.
